Music Box bows genre label with ’100 Bloody Acres’ and ‘Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal’
Music Box Films has acquired the Cairnes brothers’ “100 Bloody Acres” as the first film for its new Doppelganger Releasing label, which focus on genre titles across all distribution platforms including theatrical, DVD and digital outlets.
“Acres,” from Australian filmmaking brothers Colin and Cameron Cairnes, centers on an organic fertilizer business that experiences increased sales when its owners stumble across a “secret ingredient.” The movie premiered at the 2012 Melbourne Film Festival.
“Music Box Films has eclectic taste and Doppelganger Releasing gives us another avenue to express the full range of our cinematic interests,” said managing partner Ed Arentz.
Doppelganger’s initial slate will include Canadian-Danish comedy-horror movie “Eddie: the Sleepwalking Cannibal,” starring Thure Lindhardt (“Keep the Lights On”). Both titles will be released in the spring.
